Recently, Plan East Tennessee (PlanET) partnered with the University of Tennessee’s Agricultural Policy Analysis Center to produce a Regional Food System Assessment. The final assessment is forthcoming, but as part of the project a Knoxville Region Foodshed Map was produced to identify local food resources in our region. PlanET will also be partnering with Nourish Knoxville to produce a printed Regional Food Guide that will connect growers, food producers, and food artisans within our region.
The Knoxville Foodshed is defined by a roughly 50 mile radius around the city center, where farmers find Knoxville to be the nearest large metropolitan area to sell their products. The Foodshed encompasses 11 counties.
The Knoxville Region Foodshed Map is a searchable web-based local food guide of farmers’ markets, you-pick operations, stores and restaurants selling locally grown foods, food artisans, and farm stands in our region. Printed local food guides will also be distributed at farmers’ markets and stores listed in the guide. To view the map portion of this guide visit: http://gisdata.ag.utk.edu/public/foodshed/index.html
You can submit a new area foodshed listing by filling out a form on the website.
The Knoxville Foodshed interactive map was created and is maintained by the University of Tennessee’s Agricultural Policy Analysis Center, supported and funded by Plan East Tennessee.
