At our most recent Food Policy Council meeting, we heard from Judith Pelot, with Knoxville-Knox County’s Mobile Meals program. She noted a dire need for volunteer drivers to help deliver meals to some of the very old and frailest members of our community!
Just volunteering 1 or 2 hours of your time could make a huge difference in the life of a senior in need. Most seniors receiving meals are very old, over 85, many are in their 90s. Most live alone and have no one to help them. Many have low incomes, however, many do not. Some pay for a portion of their meals.
Your support is desperately needed to help get meals to Knox seniors in need. Delivery of meals occurs between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., once a month, once a week, or as often as your schedule permits. Total delivery time varies with one- or two-hour routes available.
